SINTOPÍA
Inmersive Experience
Taima Studio x Palacio de Hierro and Centro.
Part of Franz mayer´s Japan expo. Curated by V&A museum

The installation
Sintopía was installed in a room surrounded by three LED screens and mirrors, creating a sense of total immersion. The animated visuals unfolded across the screens, while reflections multiplied the imagery, blurring the boundaries between physical space and digital art.
The final animated piece lasted approximately one and a half minutes, designed to loop seamlessly within the immersive environment.

The process
The conceptual foundation of Sintopía was inspired by Japanese haikus and their connection to the four seasons: spring, summer, autumn, and winter. Each season was interpreted through a distinct illustrative style influenced by Japanese visual aesthetics.
As part of the creative process, Taima Studio led an in-person workshop with CENTRO students focused on manual artistic exploration. Nearly 100 hand-drawn illustrations were created using pencils, inks, watercolors, and paint. Exercises included drawing to music, visualizing keywords, and creating original haikus as visual prompts.
These illustrations were later integrated into an experimental AI workflow using Coffee UI, allowing the original textures, strokes, and gestures to be preserved while exploring abstract animation and organic transitions.
THE Result
The installation was exhibited at Palacio de Hierro for approximately one and a half months as part of the Selfie Experience. Following its success, Sintopía was selected for exhibition at the Franz Mayer Museum, in collaboration and curatorship with the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A), where it remained on display for over four months.
Sintopía stands as a project that unites art, immersive design, and artificial intelligence, creating an emotionally resonant experience within both commercial and museum spaces.

OVERVIEW
Sintopía was an immersive installation created for the Selfie Experience at Palacio de Hierro. The project was developed in collaboration with CENTRO together with university students and the Taima Studio team, under the direction of Taima’s founder Beatriz Benedetti Sandner, who is also a faculty member at CENTRO.
The overall theme of the Selfie Experience was inspired by Japanese culture, and Sintopía was conceived as an immersive room designed to fully surround visitors through a combination of LED screens and mirrors, creating a sense of total visual immersion.
