Anamorphic Experience

Taima Studio x El Palacio de Hierro 2026 CDMX

The installation:

The animation unfolds across (three environmental moments: day, sunset, and night) creating a sense of movement and life that mirrors the rhythm of Mexico City itself.

The jaguar interacts with a luminous sphere that plays an important role in reinforcing the spatial illusion and perspective of the scene. This sphere incorporates El Palacio de Hierro’s signature amber-yellow color, which also appears in several details of the jaguar, such as its eyes and the shifting tones of its markings.

During specific actions (stretching, waking up, or roaring) the jaguar’s colors intensify and transform into vivid golden tones, adding a magical and elegant dimension to the experience while emphasizing the brand’s identity.

The process

One of the key challenges was working with relatively compact screen dimensions while creating the feeling of a grand, open architectural environment. To achieve this, the scene was inspired by brutalist and minimalist architecture, echoing the style of the building itself and reinforcing the sense that the digital elements belong to the real space.

Taima conducted a 3D scan and digital reconstruction of the location to determine the exact sweet spot from which the anamorphic illusion would work perfectly. The virtual camera was positioned at the average viewer height in Mexico, using a 45–50 mm perspective, ensuring the illusion felt natural to pedestrians.

Every element, from lighting and materials to color accuracy, was carefully calibrated to match the real-world environment, allowing the jaguar to appear grounded and physically present rather than detached from the architecture.

THE Result:

The final installation delivers a powerful architectural illusion, where the jaguar appears to emerge from the building itself: confident, majestic, and alive within the space.

The project became one of the most ambitious anamorphic installations in Mexico City, combining hyperrealistic character design, architectural integration, and carefully crafted perspective. The result is a visual landmark that captures attention, reflects the sophistication of El Palacio de Hierro, and transforms the façade into a living digital presence.

OVERVIEW

Taima Studio developed a large-scale anamorphic installation for El Palacio de Hierro Durango, created as a signature visual experience for the store. The goal was to design a symbolic character for the brand: something elegant, sophisticated, and slightly magical that could embody the aesthetic values of El Palacio de Hierro while captivating people passing by the screen.

The concept centered around a hyperrealistic jaguar, conceived as a refined and powerful presence. The piece was designed not as a floating illusion but as a character that feels architecturally integrated into the space, as if it truly exists within the corner of the building.
